My father was an artist. I remember helping him paint a mural on the dining room wall of the first house he was able to buy for my mother. The mural was of a lighthouse. It was beautiful. Sadly we lost that house due to my father’s illness, but the memory is still as strong as ever.
After my father died, I continued to keep sketchbooks. Mostly I’d draw album covers and unicorns. Once, however, I ventured out of my comfort zone and drew a self-portrait to give to my boyfriend at the time who lived in Tennessee. When I moved there to be with him I found the drawing rolled up under the bed. I pulled it out and saw that he had erased the mouth and redrew it. After that I stopped drawing. It took the wind out of my sails to know that someone I loved took something so personal and decided he could do it better.
It wasn’t until recently that I rediscovered my love of painting and drawing. And believe me I had my reservations since I am now married to a very successful 3-D illustrator. Now I’m at a point where I do it for me – and to show my father that I haven’t forgotten about him and the times we painted and drew together.
I will share some of my pieces and the stories behind them here.
Here’s my ETSY shop Purple Patch Life– it’s a work in progress, so be patient.

While walking my mom’s dog today I found this part of a palm tree. I’ve always seen them made into reindeer at Christmas, but I wanted something different. So here’s my take on palm tree art.
Don’t mess with nature…unless you can paint it!
Visited the link with your work, it looks fantastic keep at it! have a great day.
